Communication Sciences And Disorders – Clinical Experiences
At the undergraduate level, students are required to observe 25 clock hours of speech-language therapy. These hours are completed as part of two clinical observation courses, and occur in one of two settings on the Maryville campus, the Maryville University Speech and Language Clinic or the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic. During the second clinical observation course, each undergraduate student is assigned one case to follow in-depth throughout the semester. Activities include session observations and question/answer times with the treating clinician and/or supervisor. Choice of assessments, treatment techniques, intervention materials selection, client response to the treatment, and evidence-based practice may all be discussed.
