Spirit of Maryville 2014: Janet McMahon

Janet A. McMahon, ’62, serves as director of a charity foundation begun by her father in the turbulence of the 1960s to provide food and clothing for the needy and recently retired as bookkeeper with her family’s hotel business.

McMahon, who earned her BA in sociology with minors in history and philosophy, has been close with many of her classmates for more than 50 years, saying: “I admire them for their devotion to whatever profession they chose—many chose education—because they persevered in their careers despite the sacrifices they needed to make and even though their devotion to family came first.”
