Duchesne Society

The Philippine Duchesne Society is Maryville University’s highest level giving club.  While the Duchesne Society represents the future of Maryville, it is steeped in a tradition that dates even further back than the University itself.  The Society takes its name from Mother Rose Philippine Duchesne, a groundbreaking pioneer in the field of education who dedicated her life to helping others pursue knowledge.  She established numerous schools around St. Louis, including an academy for young women.  “Maryville Academy,” which opened its doors in 1872, grew from these roots to ultimately become Maryville University.

The Duchesne Society is a donor club reserved for those who give unrestricted annual gifts of $1,000 or more during one fiscal year (June 1 through May 31) to academic and athletic programs.  These funds are used at the discretion of the deans and directors of the University to address the urgent needs and priorities of the day.  Gifts given through the Duchesne Society may support faculty and student research, visiting speakers, classroom and library resource needs, annual scholarships, technology upgrades, student organizations, initiatives promoting environmental stewardship and much more.
