Civic Engagement

Part of being a Maryville Saint is a commitment to leadership and active engagement in local, national, and global communities to both strengthen those communities and assist others. You will learn how to do this by becoming active citizens who seek to make a difference in the world.

We provides many opportunities for you to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for you to become active citizens who work to address and solve issues that affect our communities here at home or far away. By becoming more aware of public issues, participating in service activities or working to make fundamental changes, Maryville will prepare you to become a civic leader.

Whether it is taking courses focused on civic engagement issues, completing internship, practicums or clinicals that engage you in community service, joining one of our many civic engagement organizations or attending one of our annual civic engagement activities there are lots of ways for you to learn how to bring about positive change in the world.

One of our annual civic engagement events is a whole-campus day of community service. Maryville Reaches Out brings faculty, staff and students together to take on volunteer projects in service to many organizations and non-profits throughout the greater St. Louis community.

All graduating seniors are invited to apply for a Core Value Distinction in Civic Engagement to recognize their involvement. Students awarded this distinction receive a special graduation cord to wear at commencement, recognition in the commencement program and a certificate to use in their future endeavors.
