About the Health and Well-being Summit

The Summit is a comprehensive initiative promoting well-being across Maryville University.It integrates the 8 Dimensions of Wellness into a variety of activities focused on enhancing academic, emotional, physical, and social health. Expert-led sessions provide a platform for sharing wellness strategies, fostering a supportive environment, and encouraging healthy lifestyle choices.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS FESTIVAL OVERVIEW

The Health and Well-being Summit concludes with the Health and Wellness Festival, showcasing over 45 departments and local St. Louis businesses and organizations. This final day offers giveaways, interactive experiences, and direct interactions with wellness experts, highlighting the collective effort to support well-being at Maryville University and beyond.

The summit revolves around four key pillars to enhance well-being:

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Call for Programs: We are currently accepting proposals for workshops, presentations, and activities that align with the summit’s mission. Whether you’re an expert in your field, a passionate advocate for wellness, or have a unique activity to share, we want to hear from you!

Health and Wellness Festival: The summit will culminate in a Health and Wellness Festival, showcasing booths from across the health and wellness spectrum. If you represent a health-focused organization, wellness brand, or community service, reserve your booth space now!

Secure your health’s future with our exclusive Vascular Screening event hosted by St. Luke’s Heart & Vascular Institute. This vital health initiative offers all participants a detailed 20-minute appointment, focusing on three screenings: Carotid Artery Disease, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA), and Peripheral Artery Disease. Each screening is designed to detect early signs of vascular conditions, ensuring you receive the necessary preventative care. While the total cost of this invaluable service is $125, Maryville University is proud to support its employees’ health by subsidizing $100 of the fee. Empowering Self-Esteem: Navigating Body Image and Sexuality | 2–3:15 p.m. CT

This free assessment involves a simple fingerstick that assesses for Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides, Glucose, Blood Pressure, Waist Circumference, and Weight. Overdose Prevention and Naloxone Administration (PreventEd)  | 2–3 p.m. CT

Navigating Conversations on Substance Use This one-hour training covers several substance use related topics, including the brain science, signs, and symptoms of substance use disorder, current drug trends, and resources. In addition, we’ll discuss the importance of using person first language (PFL) and preferred terminology to reduce the stigma and prejudice for people who use drugs. This one-hour training is designed for professionals and anyone else working with individuals who are at risk of experiencing or witnessing a heroin/opioid overdose. Topics include a discussion of opioid use disorder (OUD) as a brain disease, the landscape of the opioid epidemic, risk factors for overdose, harm reduction, and how to administer Narcan/naloxone. Secure your health’s future with our exclusive Vascular Screening event hosted by St. Luke’s Heart & Vascular Institute. This vital health initiative offers all participants a detailed 20-minute appointment, focusing on three screenings: Carotid Artery Disease, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA), and Peripheral Artery Disease. Each screening is designed to detect early signs of vascular conditions, ensuring you receive the necessary preventative care. While the total cost of this invaluable service is $125, Maryville University is proud to support its employees’ health by subsidizing $100 of the fee.
