Center for Academic Success and First-Year Experience
The Center for Academic Success and First-Year Experience focuses on the successful transition of students into the Maryville community. Maryville has a comprehensive and integrated approach to assisting students in their academic, financial, and personal transition to Maryville. While the national first-to-second year retention rate of private institutions that are similar to Maryville is 72% and the overall first-to-second year retention rate of all institutions of higher education is 66%, Maryville’s intentional efforts in the first year lead to higher student satisfaction, stronger integration into the Maryville community, and a retention rate of 80%.
The Center for Academic Success and First-Year Experience has three primary goals: community, communication, and critical thinking. At the core of all of our programs and services are these three goals. Through the Center for Academic Success and First-Year Experience, we want Maryville students to become independent, creative, and analytical thinkers; they are integrated into the university community of scholars; and they articulate and defend ideas through research, writing, and speaking.
