Jennifer Henry has served as the Director of the Counseling Center at Maryville University since July of 2004. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri and her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Jennifer is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Missouri and has been working with college students since she graduated from Mizzou in 1999. Jennifer enjoys working with students on a wide range of issues but has a special interest in working with students surrounding body image issues and self-esteem. In her free time, she spends time with her family and dogs (Sammie and Bonnie), rides her scooter, and is generally seen carrying around a cup of coffee.
 

Caitlin Layer-Gaskell

Caitlin Layer-Gaskell has provided therapy services at Maryville University since August 2016. She received both her Bachelor of Arts and her Masters in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis. Caitlin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Missouri and has worked as a therapist in both school and outpatient settings. Caitlin’s primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and she enjoys working with a variety of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, and suicide prevention. Caitlin is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and is passionate about supporting survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence on their journey of recovery. In her free time, Caitlin likes to cook, read, do Pilates, and spend time with her family including her two black Labs, Mae and Peggy.

Verne Wilson has served as a counselor at Maryville University since July of 2017. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York, and his Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, Missouri. Verne is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Missouri and has been working with college-age students since 2010. Verne enjoys working with students on a wide range of issues but has a special interest in working with students surrounding trauma, alcohol/substance use, and family and relational concerns. In his free time, he spends time with his family and provides mentoring for a male group of students from 6th grade to twelfth grade. Verne enjoys relaxing by watching his favorite pastime, football, and action movies.

Ruth Dorhauer

Ruth Dorhauer will be a counseling intern at Maryville for the 2021-2022 academic year. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Missouri – St. Louis in 2019 and is there currently, working on her Master’s in Education for Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Ruth is interested in working with a variety of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and body-image issues. Ruth will be working at Maryville to continue practicing her counseling skills before graduation. In her free time, Ruth enjoys painting nails, working out, and taking care of her cat and 4 chickens.
