When you come to Maryville University to pursue a degree in English, you'll have a wonderful opportunity to study with award-winning writers of fiction and poetry. Studies show that the market for job candidates skilled in writing and critical thinking is not only stable in fields most commonly connected to humanities, like education, communications, and professional writing, but also growing in such high-earning careers like marketing, public relations, and digital production, especially in tech industries. The English program at Maryville provides several opportunities for majors to gain valuable experience through internship opportunities, both on and off-campus. English majors can intern as editors and copywriters for Magnolia, the University's art and literary magazine. They can work as peer tutors with the Writing Studio at the Division of Student Success. Or they can find any number of local or online internships outside of Maryville with the guidance of our experienced faculty.
