Maryville University designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense by the National Security Agency (NSA)

Maryville continues to be a national leader in cybersecurity.

Maryville University has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, granted by the National Security Agency (NSA) for their Undergraduate Cybersecurity curriculum. Maryville will be listed as a CAE-CD, a designation awarded to regionally-accredited institutions offering cybersecurity programs at the associates, bachelors and graduate levels.

“Receiving this designation is affirmation and evidence that Maryville’s graduates are ready to meet the dynamic challenges of the nation’s cybersecurity demands. Maryville students learn the most current cybersecurity tools and practices and put them into practice by partnering with local educational and non-profit organizations to develop, bolster, and improve their security infrastructure. This relationship benefits both the community and Maryville students,” says Jennifer Yukna, PhD, vice president for academic affairs for Maryville University.

Maryville offers BS and MS curriculums both on-campus and online platforms through the Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE). The CCoE combines academic excellence with real-world experience to position our students to succeed while raising cybersecurity awareness throughout the community. The objective is to allow students to practice and develop workforce-ready skills in cybersecurity with startups and nonprofit agencies within the St. Louis community that given cost-free IT security analysis and up-to-date knowledge on compliance requirements.

“At Maryville University we know that the federal government, in particular the National Security Agency (NSA) and Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) embody the highest standards of cybersecurity for our nation. As a NSA accredited Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) both current and future students will receive education from established curriculum, competency development, community outreach and leadership development. Maryville focuses on the integration of cybersecurity practice across all disciplines within the institution which prepares students for the cybersecurity challenges in the future,” states Brian M. Gant, EdD, assistant professor of cybersecurity and program coordinator for undergrad studies.

The Cybersecurity program at Maryville also recently acquired the 2022 Academia Best New Comer award from the International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (the EC-Council), which is the world’s largest cyber security technical certification organization.
