What’s your Maryville experience?
My Maryville experience was a pivotal point in my life. After spending three years in community college, it felt great to finally take classes in my desired career field. Throughout my experience, I gained many new lifetime bonds, had multiple opportunities, and heavily enjoyed the Music Therapy program at Maryville. Since the career path is small, the department of music therapy at Maryville was very supportive and cooperative with one another.
What’s your favorite Maryville memory?
My favorite Maryville memory is being a part of Maryville’s Gospel Choir, under the leadership of Damon Mitchell. I joined the choir as a transfer student in my first semester at Maryville. I loved supporting the mission of spreading God’s word as a minority choir, and also giving people the opportunity to hear different genres. We had many opportunities to perform at sports events, MLK ceremonies, and lastly to become an official class that students can take for credit, rather than just a club on campus. I’m glad to be a part of that historic milestone at Maryville.
What are you doing now?
I recently graduated from Maryville, so I have not had any lifestyle changes yet. However, I am preparing for my internship at Midwest Music Therapy in September. Throughout this summer, I’ve been spending my time practicing multiple instruments and enjoying this break before starting the next chapter of my life.
Additional goals and aspirations?
One day, I would love to open my own private practice with a focus in music therapy as well as music educational services. I am very passionate about providing music therapy services to clients in need, and also teaching clients that would just like to learn an instrument.
How did your education and experience at Maryville help you?
Maryville helped me become more confident in my musicianship through the continuous support from my peers and professors. The music therapy program at Maryville has helped me become prepared in my field and confident in my practice in becoming a music therapist.
Words of wisdom for today’s students?
Never stop pursuing your passions. Never give up your dreams, despite circumstances and roadblocks that may occur in your life. The sky is the limit!
