The Women’s Leadership Program (WLP) brings together women from all areas of campus to support, connect and develop other woman leaders at Maryville University. WLP hosts a number of events throughout the year to encourage discussions about diversity and women’s initiatives, reach out to future leaders and connect with women in the local community.
The program’s signature event, the Women Who Dare to Dream luncheon, is a celebratory gathering of female students, faculty and staff. The event features a keynote speaker of regional or national renown, along with the presentation of the Maryville University Woman of Distinction Award. Past speakers for the event have included:
- Dr. Harriet Switzer, President of Maryville University from 1970-1976
- Maxine Clark, Founder of Build-A-Bear Workshop®
- Adrian Bracy, Chief Executive Officer of YWCA Metro St. Louis
- Marie Harf, former official of the U.S. State Department
- Khalia Collier, owner and general manager of the St. Louis Surge, women’s professional basketball team
Other opportunities for women on campus include:

- Women’s Caucus: A yearly networking reception for female faculty, staff, and campus partners
- Women’s Leadership Mentoring Program: Faculty-Staff mentoring program to engage, empower and elevate second-year female students
