From sports to science, Maryville offers wide range of fun summer camps and programs

Maryville University offers a variety of fun and interesting summer camps for children and programs for teens. Here’s a look at some of what’s being offered on campus this summer.

Summer Arts Institute

The Summer Arts Institute Middle and High School Program offers fine arts instruction and experience for students who have completed grades 6 through 10.  These two-week, all-day intensive studio programs in drawing, metalsmithing, painting, fibers and ceramics focus on providing students artistic experiences that expand on what they typically have access to in a traditional school setting.  The Summer Arts Institute curriculum develops each student’s artistic and technical skills through hands-on experience with individual attention and encouragement.

Class size is small.
Ages of camp attendees:  11-17
Location:  Maryville University main campus

Dates and times: Monday, June 18 – Friday, June 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Monday, July 9 – Friday, July 20 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cost:  $480

 Maryville University Sport Business Management Institute

The Sport Business Management Academy sponsored by the John E. Simon School of Business provides an opportunity for participants to explore the business of sport.  This program offers learning opportunities in the areas of Sponsorship, Sport Industry Agencies, Professional Team Management, Sports Agents and Sports Products.

Students will examine several academic business disciplines, such as management, law, sponsorship, marketing, sales and leadership.  They’ll gain valuable insight into Maryville’s Sport Business Management program and see why Sport Business professionals value Maryville grads.

Eligibility: Students should be entering their junior or senior year of high school in August 2012.

Dates and times:  Tuesday, July 17- Saturday, July 21, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Maryville Summer Science and Robotics Program for High-Ability Students

The Maryvillle Summer Science and Robotics Program for High Ability Students is an engaging opportunity for students who are interested in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) fields. We offer high-end programming with highly qualified faculty, including professors, computer programmers, and gifted certified teachers.

The program is designed for children and teens ages 4-15 who are either already identified as gifted or who perform well above others their age in science, technology, engineering, and/or math including exceptional use of engineering toys such as LEGO or other building sets.

Ages of program attendees: 4-15
Location: AB Hall, Reid Hall, and Kernaghan Hall
Dates and times: weekdays Monday, July 14- Friday, July 25, 2014  from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cost: $195-$290 per class (participants may choose up to four classes)

Pre-College Art & Design Summer Program

The Maryville University Pre-College Art & Design Summer Program provides high school students with a unique opportunity to build their portfolios while studying with college-level faculty in a highly creative art school setting. Students who have completed at least one year of high school are invited to attend. While prior art classes or experiences are helpful, they are not necessary for participation.

The Program offers valuable art and design foundation coursework to students interested in digital imaging, drawing, graphic design, illustration, craft, metals, interior design, painting, and photography, as well as other areas. All first-year students work on the same projects and cover the same information, while students who completed the program in a prior year are assigned advanced projects.

Ages of program attendees: Students who have completed the 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grades are invited to attend.

Location: Art & Design building on the main Maryville University CampusDates and times: Session One: Monday, June 11-Friday, June 22, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Orientation on Sunday, June 10 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Classes: Digital Media and Design; Drawing Studio

Session Two:  9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.;  Monday, July 9 -Friday, July 20, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Orientation on Sunday, July 8 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Classes: Introduction to Interior Design; Playing with Fire and Hammers
Supplies: A supply list will be sent upon receipt of the registration form and payment.
Cost:  $500 per two-week session or $950 for both sessions

Criminal Justice/Forensic Science Summer Institute
“From Murder to Trial”:  Do you find yourself waiting anxiously for the next episode of shows like CSI or Bones? If so, you may be thinking of a career in law enforcement, forensic science or the justice system.  This one-week summer program will allow participants to explore all facets of the Criminal Justice system. A hands-on learning experience that explores the process of evidence collection, evidence analysis and the presentation of evidence in the courtroom.

Eligibility: Students should be entering their junior or senior year of high school in August 2012.

Dates: Tuesday, July 10 – Friday, July 13, 2012.

Cost: Registration fee of $225.

Saints Soccer Camp

For more than 30 years, the Maryville University Saints Soccer Camp has provided an atmosphere to learn soccer fundamentals with instruction by elite-level coaches. Emphasizing the technical and tactical elements of soccer allow participants to develop skills that lead to a well-rounded player. All campers will have the opportunity to grow individually, and learn what it truly means to work with a team.
