Teaching and Learning Conference Registration Opens

The Dr. Mary Ellen Finch Center for Teaching and Learning at Maryville University will present its 2nd Annual Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL ) Working Conference, “Integrating the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning into Academic Culture,” on Oct. 1-2.

Keynote speakers for the conference include Anthony (Tony) Ciccone, PhD, senior scholar and past director of the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and Carmen Werder, PhD, director of the Teaching-Learning Academy at Western Washington University.
Werder, co-author of the book, Engaging Student Voices in the Study of Teaching and Learning, will lead a panel of five students who are involved in doing classroom research with their professors. More than 30 proposals from 18 different institutions have been submitted. The conference focuses on the exploration of SoTL to enhance teaching and learning in the disciplines, and how to involve students as research partners and capture student perspectives in the impact that SoTL studies have on their learning.
“Maryville University has only been in the faculty development center ‘business’ for five years, but it is already clear to us that integrating the scholarship of teaching and learning into our campus culture has been a powerful force for invigorating and supporting faculty interest in teaching and learning,” said Marilyn Cohn, PhD, director of the Finch Center for Teaching and Learning.
