Students Jumpstart Career inTexas Bowl Internship
2/8/10
Four Maryville University students in the Sport Business Management program worked as interns during the Texas vs. The Nation Bowl Game, played on Saturday, Feb. 6, in El Paso, Texas. The game pits top collegiate senior all-stars with ties to the state of Texas against top seniors from around the nation. The hometown squad emerged victorious, posting a 36-17 win over The Nation.
Maryville students, who served as player liaisons for the sports event, blogged from Texas about their work at http://blogs.maryville.edu/studentinterns. John Murar wrapped up his experience this way:
“Not only did I gain invaluable experience, I was able to get my name out their and build contacts which is a crucial part in the business of sport.” he said. “The added responsibility during the week allowed me to grow as a leader, a student and as a professional.”
“Participation in the Texas vs. The Nation Bowl Game is a great opportunity for our students to add another level of professional internship experience to their resume,” said Jason M. Williams, assistant professor of sport business management.
The week-long schedules of each player were entrusted to the player liaisons – the four students recruited exclusively from Maryville University. Participants were: Sean Wollenberg, Crystal Lake, Ill.; Chuck Kuchar, St. Louis, Mo.; Jared Mills, Iowa City, Iowa; and Murar, St. Louis, Mo. They were accompanied by Williams and Jeff Miller, vice president of enrollment.
Maryville University is grateful for the support of Rawlings Corp., which sponsored the students’ apparel for the Texas vs. The Nation Bowl internship.
