Maryville University’s Art & Design program in the College of Arts and Sciences has announced a generous donation from the Society of Midwest Metalsmiths.

“In appreciation for the use of our facilities, the Society has shared visiting artists with our students,” said John Baltrushunas, associate professor of art. “This year, the organization’s generosity includes a gift of tools and a scholarship.”

One Maryville student will receive a $1000 scholarship award honoring the memory of Heikki Seppa, a founding member of the Society of Midwest Metalsmiths, and a friend and mentor to many of its members.

The Society has also donated a sanding and buffing machine and other tools for the University’s studio.

Along with jewelry and metals, Maryville’s Art & Design Program offers concentrated studies in interior design, graphic design, interactive design, printmaking, drawing, painting, ceramics and photography.

The Society of Midwest Metalsmiths was established in 1995 with a goal to promote, develop, educate, and encourage individuals who are interested in metalsmithing.
