Fall 2021 Updates to COVID-19 Policies and Protocols for On-Campus Students and Employees

July 19, 2021

Please see the August 4 announcement for revised protocols

Vaccination Status Policies and Vaccination Submission

Maryville expects all faculty, staff and students to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit proof via our Vaccination Reporting Form by August 15, 2021.

Community members who have not submitted proof of vaccination by August 15, 2021 will be contacted through their Maryville email with additional information on the University’s testing program.  Alternatively, community members may choose to obtain a PCR COVID-19 test from the healthcare provider of their choice and submit the test results to the University. The test must be completed within 3 days of the student/employee’s return to campus and the results must be provided to the Office of Health and Wellness. Additional information on acceptable alternative tests and how to submit results will be included in testing program communications.

Fully vaccinated individuals:

  • Encouraged to wear a face covering while indoors in public spaces (i.e. Gander Dining Hall, the Library, classrooms, etc.).
  • Only complete the health screening survey if they develop COVID-19 symptoms.

Individuals who are not fully vaccinated:

  • Required to complete a COVID-19 test before returning to campus for the fall semester
  • Required to complete a minimum of weekly COVID-19 tests throughout the academic year
  • Required to complete a daily health screening survey
  • Expected to wear a face covering when indoors at all times and outdoors when physical distance cannot be maintained

Non-compliance for testing or completing the daily health survey may result in disciplinary action, including immediate removal from campus.

While Maryville does not require COVID-19 vaccination, students should be aware that some third-party external sites, such as clinical sites, study abroad programs, student teaching or internship sites, may require vaccination. Per Maryville’s affiliation agreements with these third-party sites, we are required to comply with the standards implemented by the site. Maryville will work with students to identify alternative options should external vaccination requirements present a barrier to a student’s participation; however, Mayville cannot guarantee the availability of alternative sites or that alternatives will be comparable to the student’s preferred site. Getting the vaccine is the surest way to help avoid any disruption to your academic progression.

Student Vaccination Incentives

  • All students who submit proof of full vaccination by August 15th will receive a free special edition Maryville t-shirt (including those who have already submitted proof of COVID vaccination).
  • Residential students who submit proof of vaccination by August 15th will get a fast pass allowing them to skip the screening process during move-in and head straight to their residential facility. Further details will be announced soon by Residential Life.
  • Additionally, Maryville is partnering with the St. Louis Cardinals to encourage our community to get vaccinated. If 60% of Maryville students are fully vaccinated by September 13th, we’ll provide fully vaccinated students with a ticket to the Cardinals game on September 28th. Maryville will have a special section at the game.

Vaccination Clinics

Walk-in vaccination clinics will be held during move-in and orientation, but vaccination prior to move-in is strongly encouraged.

Vaccinations are also available on an ongoing basis by appointment. You can make an appointment by calling 314-529-9520 or emailing healthandwellness@maryville.edu.

Testing, Contract Tracing, Quarantine and Isolation

Unvaccinated employees and students are required to be tested for COVID-19 upon returning to campus. Testing will take place on campus and more details will be provided soon.

Unvaccinated community members are also required to be tested at least weekly for COVID-19 beginning the week of August 23rd. The frequency of testing will be determined by the rate of community transmission as defined by the CDC. All testing will take place in Huttig Chapel. An email will be sent with more information.

Non-compliance for testing or completing the daily health survey may result in disciplinary action, including immediate removal from campus.

Maryville will continue to offer COVID-19 testing and coordinate contract tracing through the Health and Wellness Office. We will also continue to follow CDC and St. Louis County guidelines for quarantine and isolation related to COVID-19 exposure and infection. To help support the uninterrupted academic success of students who are in quarantine and isolation, Maryville plans to continue to offer students the ability to join classes by Zoom during periods of quarantine and isolation as directed by the Health and Wellness Office.

Depending upon availability of quarantine and isolation space, residential students may be directed to complete quarantine and isolation at home.

In line with CDC guidance, Maryville strongly recommends all unvaccinated community members quarantine for seven to ten days after travel, international or domestic.

Maryville also strongly recommends anyone returning from international travel, regardless of vaccination status, get tested for COVID-19 at Maryville’s Health and Wellness Office three to five days after returning. Maryville’s Office of Health and Wellness will provide free testing to all faculty, staff and students returning from international travel who choose to get tested.

We expect all Community Members to be responsible in limiting personal exposures and to adhere to CDC-recommended health and safety practices in preparation for your return to campus.

Social Distancing in Classrooms

Most classes are not scheduled to capacity and will have some open seating for those who wish to social distance on-campus. Students who attend a class and don’t feel there is adequate space to social distance may contact the Solution Squad to adjust their registration to identify a different section or course.

All visitors, including those helping students move-in, are required to complete the health screening survey before arriving to campus. Visitors are required to adhere to all University policies and procedures regarding COVID-19.
