Hiring Relatives of Current Employees/Nepotism

Maryville University will not prohibit the employment of relatives in the same administrative or academic units, provided that one relative does not participate in making recommendations or decisions affecting the appointment, retention, tenure, work assignments, promotion, demotion, or salary of the other relative, and provided that no preferential policy towards a relative be used to deny equal opportunity. It is University policy that no more than two members of the same family be employed to work in the same administrative or academic unit on a permanent basis. In addition, any relative hired by the University must meet normal faculty or staff selection qualifications. For purposes of definition, “Relative” means spouse, mother or father, mother or father-in-law, son or daughter, brother or sister, son or daughter-in-law, aunt or uncle, grandparent, and grandchild.
