6/25/12

ST. LOUIS –The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has named Maryville University a “Top Workplace” for 2012 – making Maryville one of only 50 employers in the region to receive this recognition.

Maryville University came in at No. 15 among medium-sized employers. Maryville students say high quality academics and a friendly, welcoming community make Maryville stand out. Faculty and staff at Maryville often talk of high job satisfaction in an environment that provides opportunities for professional success and professional development.

Maryville University President Mark Lombardi said, “This is a significant accomplishment and one that will let us continue to attract talented faculty and staff to Maryville. The honor is particularly meaningful because the judges were Maryville University faculty and staff.”

The rankings were determined through a joint project by the Post-Dispatch newspaper and survey company Workplace Dynamics. The newspaper named 50 employers worth a look by job seekers in this tight labor market — 10 large companies, 15 medium-sized companies and 25 small companies, all ranked by their own employees in confidential surveys. Some 97 employers participated.

Morale boosters such as community service projects, management transparency, open communication and clear expectations were common threads connecting Top Workplaces.

Maryville University’s Director of Human Resources Jackie Plunkett said, “New employees are always amazed at our extraordinary benefit package and the friendly and welcoming ‘feel’ of the campus. We often hear employees say that Maryville feels like a family, supporting one another while focusing on student-centeredness. It’s not hard to see why we have minimal turnover and employees who have been at Maryville for more than 30 years.”
