ST. LOUIS — U.S. News & World Report has determined Maryville University ranks No. 2 in the nation for being a university that is more highly ranked on its reputation for academic excellence by high school guidance counselors compared to its ranking by college officials.

Maryville University President Mark Lombardi said the report enhances the value of all Maryville University degrees. “This shows we are doing outstanding work for our students inside and outside the classroom and reminds us that it takes time for reputations to grow. The first step to an outstanding national reputation is always exceptional performance.”

Maryville University ranked 160th in U.S. News’ National Universities Category for 2013 when measurable metrics were studied. Collegiate peers ranked Maryville at 247for academic reputation, but high school guidance counselors, who often follow their students closely as they move to college campuses, ranked Maryville 92 points higher at 155.

St. Mary’s University of Minnesota ranked first with a 149-point difference between high school guidance counselors assessments and college peer marks. The University of St. Thomas (MN) ranked third with an 82-point spread, Biola University (CA) came in fourth with a 67-point difference between the two groups’ opinion.
