St. Louis—Maryville University will debut an accelerated, one-year MBA program this fall. The degree normally takes two academic years to complete, but Maryville faculty and administrators have created a unique fast-track option.

The program combines online and traditional classes to provide optimum flexibility for working students. Students come to campus once a week from 6 to 9:50 p.m. for face-to-face classes.

The program also offers a packaged tuition-and-fee structure that includes tuition, fees, an iPad and downloadable textbooks needed for the degree.

Degree candidates will be able to complete their master’s degree in three semesters, fall, spring and summer, taking one traditional class and one online course for each eight-week segment.

Maryville’s one-year MBA degree track is a “very good fit for a student who has an undergraduate degree in business and wants to go for their MBA in less time,” said Kathy Dougherty, an assistant professor of marketing for Maryville’s MBA program. “In some cases students may already be working, and those students can still take this program to get their MBA.”

The MBA can be valuable, Dougherty said, because many employers require an advanced degree for advancement. Maryville’s John E. Simon School of Business is well known regionally as a premier training ground for business professionals. Former students say they were able to move ahead quickly with the university’s favorable faculty-to-student ratio, small class sizes and the school’s close ties with area business leaders. Many area corporations also provide tuition reimbursement benefits for those earning advanced degrees.
