Maryville University will hold a dedication ceremony for its newest residence hall at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 18, in honor of Cookie and T.R. Potter Jr.

The building’s name recognizes Maryville alumna and former trustee Marguerite “Cookie” Potter-Feinberg and her late husband T. Randolph Potter Jr. The University purchased the former Courtyard Marriott hotel in 2010.

Potter is a 1971 graduate of Maryville and served on the Board of Trustees from 1997 to 2006. Marguerite “Cookie” Kaulakis met the man she would marry, T.R. Potter, when she was a sophomore at Maryville. It was the same year she successfully ran to hold a student council office, armed with political science knowledge from her studies and Oreo cookies, given out during her campaign to help students remember her nickname.

Potter is well known for her service work over the years, both to Maryville and throughout the St. Louis region. Maryville University thanks her for her commitment and generosity to the University.

Cookie and T.R. Potter Jr. Hall offers housing for about 250 students. Rooms include single, double and triple accommodations, and each room has a private bathroom. The three-story building includes a lobby with welcoming areas where students study and socialize and free laundry facilities. There is a beverage station with free coffee, tea and water, even a popcorn machine. An on-site fitness center features cardio and strength building exercise equipment.

Residence Life’s main office is located in the residence hall, which is within walking distance of all campus buildings. Potter Hall, which opened in August 2010, is located on Maryville Centre Drive near Interstate-64 and Woods Mill Road. Maryville has three residence halls and five apartment buildings for students who live on campus.
