Maryville University student Minyu Cao has received a prestigious scholarship from The Actuarial Foundation. Cao, a St. Louis resident, has received the foundation’s Actuary of Tomorrow – Stuart A. Robertson Memorial Scholarship. Cao was the only student in the nation to be awarded the Robertson scholarship. The scholarship encourages the academic achievements of undergraduate students pursuing an actuarial science career.
Cao, a senior, grew up in Shanghai, China, but moved with her parents to St. Louis five years ago. She has accepted an actuarial assistant position at Reinsurance Group of America after she graduates. At Maryville, Cao is the co-president of the Maryville Cultures Connect program, which promotes learning relationships between different groups of students. She is the treasurer of the Actuarial Science Club and a Multicultural Scholar, meaning she also received a Maryville scholarship for her academic preparation, leadership and a commitment to contributing to diversity at the University.
In 2006, a scholarship fund was established at The Actuarial Foundation in the name of Stuart Robertson, a distinguished actuary, to honor his dedication to excellence and to recognize his tremendously positive influence on the professional lives of many colleagues.
Cao told The Actuarial Foundation, “I appreciate your confidence in me and willingness to contribute to my actuarial education. I will take the award as my motivation to step into the field as well as my challenge to continue to deepen my actuarial knowledge.” The Actuary of Tomorrow – Stuart A. Robertson Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one student per year, in the amount of $7,500.
The Actuarial Foundation was established in 1994 to help facilitate and broaden the actuarial profession’s contribution to society. The Foundation’s mission is to develop, fund and execute education, scholarship and research programs that serve the public and the profession by harnessing the talents and resources of actuaries.
