Letter from the President to the Maryville Community

Good morning,

I hope each and every one of you had a restful and healthy winter break. I want to take this opportunity to officially welcome you back to campus and the start of the spring semester. As we did in the fall, we must be SAINTSTRONG, supporting one another, continuing our diligence around our pandemic protocols, and focusing on what matters – the education and empowerment of our student body.

Results from our recent return to campus testing are encouraging and signal your continued commitment to the health and safety of our community.
• 915 community members tested
• 2 tested positive
• 0.22% positivity

As a reminder, Maryville provides weekly updates of new COVID-19 cases within the campus community on the SAINTSTRONG website. I want to thank the employees and nursing students who worked at our testing events and the employees who are serving as trained contact tracers for the University.

We will continue to follow our COVID-19 policies including social distancing, face coverings, avoiding large gatherings and completing the daily health screening, which were effective in limiting the spread of COVID-19 on campus and enabled us to successfully complete the fall semester.

While we continue to be challenged by the pandemic, there is a light at the end of the tunnel as we look forward to widespread vaccine dissemination later this year and anticipate a much more traditional fall 2021 semester.

I hope to see many of you around campus or on Zoom. Good luck this semester!

Mark Lombardi
