Gershien Named 2011 Ageless Remarkable St. Louisan

Eleanor Gershien, ’06, has been named a 2011 Ageless Remarkable Saint Louisan for her continued involvement in philanthropy, volunteerism and career pursuits. Gershien, 80, holds the distinction of being the oldest person to receive a Maryville degree.
The awards are presented annually by St. Andrew’s Resources for Seniors. Explaining her seeming boundless energy and enthusiasm, Gershien says simply: “Age is relative to how you think.”
While studying for her BFA in studio art, which she received at age 75, Gershien participated in study abroad programs in Italy, Spain and Greece. She currently serves on the University’s National Leadership Council and is a member of Maryville’s highest level giving club, the Duchesne Society.
Still pursuing her passion for oil painting, Gershien serves as the scholarship chair for the Greater St. Louis Art Association and is a member of Chesterfield Arts. For the past 10 years, she has been a Senior Olympian and gold medalist at the annual JCC Senior Olympics in a variety of sports – including golf and the football throw.
Gershien’s real estate career has spanned more than four decades. She is a member of the St. Louis Association of Realtors and the St. Louis Regional Multiple Listing Service. She considers real estate to be more of a “calling” than a career.
