Fister Named Interim Dean for College of Arts and Sciences

Maryville University has announced that Cherie Fister, MFA, director of the Graphic and Interactive Design program, will serve as interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences for the 2014-2015 academic year. Her appointment is effective June 1. She replaces Candace Chambers, PhD, who will return to a full-time faculty position with Maryville.

“We are pleased that Cherie Fister has accepted our request that she serve as Interim Dean for the 2014-15 year,” said Mary Ellen Finch, PhD, vice president for academic affairs. “Her experience as past associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and as the current director of the Interactive and Graphic Design program has provided her with the necessary experience and wisdom to do an outstanding job.”

Fister, who also serves as a professor of graphic design, joined the faculty of Maryville University in 1995 and previously served as associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Northeast Missouri State and her MFA at Southern Illinois University.

Chambers looks forward to returning to the classroom in Fall 2014 as a professor of chemistry. “I have missed teaching,” she said, “and I’ve missed the joys of mentoring and learning with students and working on a variety of scholarly endeavors.”
