[St. Louis, Mo.] —Maryville University has announced that Cherie Fister, MFA, will serve as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, effective June 1. Fister has served as interim dean since June 2014.

“Cherie’s experience as a past program director, associate dean and interim dean clearly provides her with the experience and wisdom to lead the College as it thrives and grows,” said Mary Ellen Finch, PhD, vice president for Academic Affairs. “I am delighted she has accepted the position and look forward to her leadership.”

Fister joined the faculty of Maryville University in 1995, as director of the new graphic design program she created. Under her leadership, Maryville’s graphic design and interactive design programs have received NASAD accreditation and are well known throughout the St. Louis region and beyond. Fister has also served as associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

“The College of Arts and Sciences has long been a nexus of creative and critical thinking and its diversity is what creates such a rich environment for students and faculty alike,” Fister said. “I believe the College is poised to grow significantly as we integrate a meaningful liberal arts experience with professional preparation.”

Fister earned her bachelor’s degree at Northeast Missouri State and her MFA at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. In 2012, she received the Outstanding Faculty Award at Maryville for her teaching. She was also given a 2009 Fellow Award by AIGA, the national association for professional designers.
