Brett Rousseau, CPA

I am a full-time assistant professor of accounting.  Prior to teaching, I held various accounting and finance positions in the corporate world, including director of technical accounting at Centene Corporation, manager of technical accounting and policy at OneMain Holdings, internal audit and financial advisory manager at Protiviti, and auditor at KPMG.

I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with both my Master in Professional Accounting and Bachelor in Business Administration degress. I am a licensed certified public accountant (CPA) in the state of Missouri.

I joined Maryville University in order to pursue my true passion of educating, mentoring and learning. Relying heavily on my industry experience to bring accounting alive in the classroom, I teach financial accounting, intermediate accounting and financial reporting courses using real-world examples. I am constantly reinventing class material based on new accounting pronouncements and current events impacting the business and accounting community. I get students excited about accounting by introducing them to various career paths that an accounting degree provides. Each semester, I bring in at least one accounting professional from a St. Louis-based company to provide a “day in the life” presentation about the particular professional’s current and prior job responsibilities. These opportunities also help connect students to potential employers.
