Driving Up Applications Through Highway Closure

11/15/07

St. Louis’ main highway, Interstate 64 or Highway 40, will close between Ballas Road and I-170 at the beginning of the new year. Realizing the potential crippling effect this will have on motorists who are pursuing an academic degree at one of the many universities in St. Louis, Maryville University has taken the lead to communicate the value of options current and prospective students have in higher education in St. Louis.

Through a targeted advertising campaign that is using billboards in St. Charles County, Maryville University is communicating the importance of spending more time in class than driving to class.

The campaign appears to be gaining traction as applications for Maryville’s traditional undergraduate programs has increased 52 percent since this time last year. And, in the past two days, an additional 55 applications have arrived at the University.

There are many reasons for this spike in enrollment applications, including the billboard. Perhaps the strongest reasons include Maryville’s national reputation as a top 30 university in the Midwest according to U.S. News and World Report as well as Maryville’s flexible programs for adult students and the ability to earn a degree through programs offered its three campus locations (Fenton, O’Fallon, Mo., and in Town and Country).

Maryville offers approximately 50 undergraduate degree programs, 7 master’s and two doctoral programs. The University’s campus community includes residential facilties for up to 600 students.
