In order to\u00a0explore basic\u00a0questions of human existence,\u00a0philosophy students at Maryville begin with a historical survey of the great philosophers.\u00a0Studies\u00a0then\u00a0focus on logic, ethics and aesthetics.<\/p>\n

Students choosing to minor in philosophy or focus on it as a concentration for a liberal arts degree will\u00a0gain a detailed understanding of reasoning, human conduct and\u00a0valuation, as well as an appreciation for method.<\/p>\n

Professional\/Career Opportunities<\/h2>\n

The study of philosophy is great preparation for any career. Students who majored in philosophy have successfully completed graduate study in a variety of academic programs and pursued careers in law, higher education and writing. Others have gone on to diverse careers in business.<\/p>\n

If you’re interested in joining our\u00a0Philosophy program, you need to meet the general\u00a0admissions<\/a> requirements for the University. We recommend that you complete a variety of high school or college prep courses in English, science, math, social studies and foreign language before applying.<\/p>\n
