Philosophy

In order to explore basic questions of human existence, philosophy students at Maryville begin with a historical survey of the great philosophers. Studies then focus on logic, ethics and aesthetics.

Students choosing to minor in philosophy or focus on it as a concentration for a liberal arts degree will gain a detailed understanding of reasoning, human conduct and valuation, as well as an appreciation for method.

Professional/Career Opportunities

The study of philosophy is great preparation for any career. Students who majored in philosophy have successfully completed graduate study in a variety of academic programs and pursued careers in law, higher education and writing. Others have gone on to diverse careers in business.
