By the end of the 1960s it was clear that a new \u201crevolution in higher education\u201d was coming, and Maryville was ready to respond by reinventing itself to meet the needs of students while remaining financially solvent. <\/p>\n\"men-admitted\"<\/a>\n

Key among the changes was the decision to admit men in 1968. Soon afterward, a near financial crisis led to the absorption of the Mercy Junior College nursing program, and the creation of Maryville\u2019s Department of Nursing and Allied Health (forerunner of today\u2019s Walker College of Health Professions). <\/p>\n

Strategic partnerships with other local colleges expanded program options for Maryville students, and new programs and majors were added at an accelerated pace.
