Dominic Sanford, ’05, a fourth-year medical student at University of Missouri-Columbia, has received an American Medical Association Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship. The award recognizes Sanford as among the best of next-generation physicians and as someone committed to making a difference in the medical profession.

Sanford graduated Summa Cum Laude from Maryville University with a bachelor’s degree in biology.

The $10,000 scholarship is meant to help defray medical school expenses for each of the 15 recipients. Awardees were nominated by their medical school dean and chosen by a selection committee based upon academic standing and financial status, as well as community involvement, letters of recommendation and personal statement.

This summer, Sanford completed a clerkship rotation at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and recently began a surgery rotation in Rochester, Minn., at The Mayo Clinic. He is vice-president of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, Missouri Gamma Chapter.
