Exhibit Promises “Explosion of Color”

October 31, 2007

Eric Woods hopes patrons attending the latest exhibit at Maryville University’s Morton J. May Foundation Gallery will find the artwork sparkling, sizzling and exploding in color. One would expect no less from Woods, owner of The Firecracker Press, a St. Louis graphic design studio and printing press, whose staff created the exhibit. “We’ve plastered the wall with pictures and prints,” he said. The show runs through November 30 in the May Gallery, located within the University Library building.

The exhibit, which features Woods and other Firecracker artists: Kevin McCoy, Ash Forest and Matty Kleinberg, features more than 100 posters, prints, book covers and other pieces that The Firecracker Press produces for corporate and individual clients. “I think it’s a good mix of work,” Woods said. “Folks will see a large explosion of color and imagery, a lot of juxtaposition of images.”

Woods said his studio, which opened in early 2002, produces two to three exhibits a year. The Maryville show, he remarked, is The Firecracker Press’ first at an area university. “We’re excited about that and we hope to have more shows at Maryville and other universities in the future,” he commented.

Exhibit hours are 8 a.m. – 10 p.m., Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., Sunday.
