News and Information2/8/2010 Online Jobs Site Serves Students, Alumni, EmployersMaryville University students and alumni who seek career change or advancement have just been given another tool for prospecting job opportunities. The Career Education Office has signed on with NACELink, a national jobs database service provided by the National Association of Colleges and Universities. The Maryville version is called "Career Connections." "The benefit is multi-fold," said Lynn Willits, director of career education. "With this system, students and alumni have 24/7 access. They can manage their applications, send resumes and cover letters to specific jobs and employers, and opt to search locally or nationwide." Unlike the previous process, which required input by Maryville student staff, employers post their own jobs to the new system. The listings can include more detail because there are no longer space and time constraints, Willits said. Businesses post full-time and part-time jobs, as well as internship opportunities. "This is a sophisticated system and the technology makes it more accessible than our old database," Willits said. "Students and alumni can search for jobs, employers can search for applicants and we can generate reports that help us better understand the job market for our constituents." To participate, students, alumni and employers can simply log on to the Career Education website, click on the Career Connections logo and follow the appropriate prompts to register. The Career Education office usually approves new registrations within one business day. "The new system is easy to use and provides much better services to all of our students, alumni and employers," Willits said.
