Expert Panel to Discuss 'Bullying'

In an effort to facilitate an open dialogue on the disturbing topic of bullying among children, Maryville University will host a panel discussion, "Hand in Hand:  Take a Stand Against Bullying," from 7-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Panel members include Jeff Jamieson, attorney with Husch Blackwell Sanders LLP; Jacqui Kelly, assistant principal of Parkway West High School; Randall Flanery, Ph.D., psychologist with St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute; and Solomon Alexander, manager of the Sports Commission's Sports Foundation and Sportsmanship Initiative. Alexander is also the keynote speaker for the event.

"The panel discussion is designed to create an awareness of the pervasive nature of bullying and to facilitate open dialogue on this emotional and heart-wrenching topic," said Jack Bennett, PT, SCS, MEd, CSCS, assistant professor of physical therapy at Maryville University. "Not until we as a society understand the impact of bullying can we begin to find solutions to this problem."

The event will be held in the Maryville University Auditorium. Interested parents, teachers, school administrators and students are invited to attend. Following the panel discussion and question-and-answer period, light refreshments will be served.
