The Maryville University
Library consists of 54,000
square feet with a collection of
over 252,550 volumes on two
floors.
Major Collections

Books - The main book collection of over 213,465 books is located on the second floor. It is arranged by LC call numbers, available from the online catalog. In addition to books, the collection includes 37,570 electronic books and 11,588 audiovisual pieces.

Periodicals - The library subscribes
to over 31,467 current serials in print and electronic formats. Current paper
issues are kept along the north wall of the first floor. Some periodicals are
archived in microfiche or microfilm format on the first floor. Others are kept
in paper format on the first floor with pre-1985 issues on the second floor. A
few titles are kept on Reserve. Check the Periodical Search on the library
website to determine which titles and years are available.

Databases - Each subject area of the Library has been enhanced by the acquisition of 83 online databases. These databases often include articles in full text and are available to students and faculty using any personal computer with access to the Internet. . Databases include Academic Search Premier (EBSCO), Masterfile Premier (EBSCO) and LexisNexis Academic. Literature in health fields is covered in such databases as Medline (EBSCO), CINAHL Plus with Full Text (EBSCO), PsycINFO (EBSCO), Proquest Psychology Journals and PsycArticles (EBSCO).
A recent major addition includes ArtStor, a visual resource across the arts, humanities, social sciences, and beyond. The Digital Library contains material relevant to a broad range of academic disciplines such as Anthropology, History, Theater and Dance, Women's Studies, and many more.
The JSTOR Collections are archival full text of over 150 scholarly journals in various disciplines, going back in most cases to the first volume, but not including the latest 2-5 years (varies by title). Maryville's subscription includes the "Arts & Sciences I Collection," "Language & Literature Collection," and the "Business Collection."

Reference Collection - This area
contains materials that do not circulate (do not leave the building), but that
are available for everyone to use during the hours the library is open. Such
items as encyclopedias, dictionaries, and handbooks are in this area.
Other Collections

Reserve Collection-Kept behind the Circulation Desk, this
includes both materials owned by the library and set aside for special
use, as well as materials belonging to individual faculty members who
wish to make them available for their particular classes. Course
reserve items are assigned a reserve number, which may be looked up
in the online catalog.

Faculty wishing to place materials on reserve should
submit the Reserve Request Form (MS Word)
with the reserve items themselves, to the Circulation Desk staff.
The library now offers faculty the option of placing items on electronic
reserve, through the Library's Catalog system. Please see the Circulation Staff
for details.
The Library requires that reserve requests comply with
current copyright law (MS Word).
Audiovisual/multimedia -
The library owns a wide array of CDs,
kits, maps, DVDs, and videocassettes in three collections, all located on the
first floor. Most of these materials are in the A/V collection on the shelves
past the Reference Collection. Audio CDs are located in a separate case in the
area. Related equipment is located nearby. Feature films are located in their own display case on the first floor
near the large north-facing windows. These
collections are indexed in the online catalog.

Children's Literature - This collection, containing
both juvenile fiction and non-fiction, is located at the southwest corner
of the second floor. The items are searchable in the main catalog;
if using "Subject" or "keyword" include the word "juvenile"
in your search.

Teaching Materials -
The Pepper Coil Curriculum Collection contains special materials relating
to teaching on the elementary and secondary level, including textbooks
and kits. These materials are classified according to a special system,
and materials collected within the last 7 years are searchable in the
main catalog. The collection
is located at the southwest corner of the second floor. Note that teaching
theory books and periodicals are included in the main library collections.

ERIC Microfiche - This closed collection of educational research
and other literature is used in conjunction with the ERIC database.
The Library owns the documents produced from 1980 - 2004.
They are located in the back area of the first floor.

University Archives - The Library maintains archival
collections centering around the history of Maryville College/Maryville
University. The life
of Father Edward Dowling, S. J., a former instructor at the College,
is a special emphasis of this collection.
