Invitation to Teachers


TO:        All Teachers and Students Interested in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering

RE:        Missouri Regional Junior Science, Engineering and Humanities Symposium

We would like to invite you to submit an application for attendance at a two-day symposium March 8-9, 2013 at Maryville University in Chesterfield, MO.

Through a grant from the U.S. Army Research Office, selected students and teachers will be furnished food and lodging while in the St. Louis area.  Groups of 3-5 students and one teacher will be encouraged. Unfortunately, grant funds do not allow reimbursement for travel expenses.  Students and teachers are encouraged to seek financial assistance for travel from their school districts or local service organizations such as the Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary, Jaycees, etc. This symposium will allow participants to hear world and nationally known scientists discuss their research interests, visit laboratories of practicing scientists in industries and universities, talk informally to counselors and scientists about careers, meet peers who share an interest in science, and compete for university scholarships and a chance to attend the National JSHS Symposium (http://www.jshs.org).

Senior students submitting original research papers for presentation will receive first consideration, but since approximately 250 students and 50 teachers will be invited, there will be an opportunity to attend for those who do not submit papers but who rank high on the other application criteria. Some students and teachers may want to attend the symposium regardless of the criteria on the application form and may do so by paying a $145 fee to cover all expenses for this two-day event.  Fees cannot be returned after February 1.

Please note that we need your group’s application form by Monday, December 3, 2012.  This will ensure your consideration and provide an opportunity to furnish you with more detailed information.
