Maryville University will host its Sixth Annual Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Conference, Oct. 10-11, 2014. This year’s theme is “Learner-Centered Teaching: Research and Rationale for Change.”

Conference participants, especially educators, will acquire new approaches for learner-centered teaching and come away with new strategies they can immediately implement in the classroom. Three highly regarded scholars will serve as keynote speakers during the conference:


Terry Doyle

Terry Doyle is the author of Learner-Centered Teaching: Putting the Research on Learning into Practice and co-author of The New Science of Learning: How to Learn in Harmony with your Brain.








Jon Landis, PhD

Jon Landis, PhD, national development executive with Apple Inc., is a national presenter on learner-centered opportunities associated with mobile technologies.







Gintaras Duda, PhD

Gintaras Duda, PhD,  associate professor of physics at Creighton University, is the 2013 Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching Outstanding Master’s Universities and Colleges National Professor of the Year. He served as co-director of the International Institute for SoTL Scholars and Mentors (IISSAM) in 2011.  He will help participants design SoTL studies on their efforts to implement new learner-centered approaches.
