Mark Bowden, the author of Black Hawk Down, has written The Finish: The Killing of Osama bin Laden. He’ll give a book reading, answer questions and sign books at a Maryville Talks Books event.
Bowden is today’s preeminent chronicler of Special Forces operations. He was given unprecedented access to key players inside the war room as decisions were made and on the ground as directives were executed.
His narrative details the rapid evolution of war-fighting methods over the last decade, as American Special Forces and intelligence adapted to fight non-state enemies like al-Qaeda, and how they came together seamlessly in May 2011 to kill the world’s most notorious terrorist. In the day after the strike, an Obama administration official was quoted in The New York Times as saying, “There wasn’t a meeting when someone didn’t mention Black Hawk Down.” This book is a perfect match of author and subject.
