Peter Henderson, DM, Assistant Professor of Music
Maryville will host an informal series of free classical music concerts on campus during the spring semester. The program features Peter Henderson, DM, assistant professor of music and frequent pianist with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra.  In the first concert, slated for Jan. 25, Henderson performs works by Robert Schumann and Frédéric Chopin in a solo piano recital.

Solo Recital
7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 25
University Auditorium

Peter Henderson will perform Robert Schumann's Carnaval, op.9 and various works by Frédéric Chopin, including several Études. Carnaval is a virtuosic collection of pieces that reflect the composer's many moods; Chopin's highly challenging Études, composed between 1829-1841, revolutionized piano technique.

Daniel Lee, cello and Peter Henderson, piano
7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 15
University Auditorium

Daniel Lee, a highly sought-after concert artist, is the principal cellist of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Quintets for Piano and Strings
7 p.m., Monday, March 15
University Auditorium

The program features quintets for piano and strings by Erno Dohnányi and Walter Piston performed by pianist Peter Henderson and friends from the Saint Louis Symphony. Featured musicians are Emily Ho & Kristin Ahlstrom, violins; Shannon Farrell Williams, viola; and Anne Fagerburg, cello. They will play two Quintets for piano and strings in contrasting styles.  Dohnányi's Piano Quintet, op.1, is a Romantic work in a grand, symphonic style with several big, memorable tunes.  The Piano Quintet, composed in 1949 by American composer Piston, features rugged, active rhythms.

Sonatas for Cello and Piano and for Piano Solo
7 p.m., Monday, April 26
University Auditorium

American composer Samuel Barber is most famous for his frequently heard Adagio for Strings.  Barber's cello and piano sonatas feature his trademark neo-Romantic lyricism and structural integrity. The works will be performed by Bjorn Ranheim, cello, and Peter Henderson, piano.
