Farai Chideya Keynotes MLK Celebration

Farai Chideya, award-winning author and journalist, will be the keynote speaker for Maryville University's 5th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Day Celebration. Chideya will speak at noon, Jan. 14, 2010, in the University Auditorium.

Admission to the event is free and open to the public.

As author of three non-fiction books on race, politics and media, Chideya recently published her first novel, Kiss the Sky, an Essence Magazine book club selection. for 2009. During her 20-year career, Chideya has also hosted NPR's News and Notes, and worked for Newsweek, MTV, CNN, ABC, and Oxygen.  She founded PopandPolitics.com in 1995, one of the longest continuously operating blogs in the world.

Chideya's awards include a National Education Reporting Award, a North Star News Prize and a special award from the National Gay and Lesbian Journalists Association for coverage of AIDS.
