Men's Cross Country Announces Team Awards
The 2009 Maryville Men's Cross Country team
Sophomore TJ Matthews (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) was named the Team MVP and freshmen Nolan Bevirt St. Louis) and Casey Humphrey (Omaha, Neb.) took home the Newcomer of the Year and Coaches Award, respectively.
Matthews was the top Maryville finisher at four of the six meets this season. He set the school record at the Hokie Open with his 6K time of 20:08.8.
Bevirt was the top Saints finisher at the other two meets on the schedule and ran the fastest 8K of the year at Wisconsin-Parkside's invitational.
Humphrey "always gave his all through every practice and competition," said head coach Micky Kaufman. "Casey is one of those rare athletes that a coach dreams about."
