Matthews Sets New School Record at Hokie Open

 
Sophomore TJ Matthews set a new school 6K record at the Hokie Open
BLACKSBURG, Va.—The Maryville University men's cross country team competed in the Hokie Open Friday afternoon in its season finale.

Sophomore TJ Matthews (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) set a new school record with his 6K tie of 20:08.8. He broke the record of 20:44.2 set by Thomas Albes at the Big River Early Bird last season.

Freshman Nolan Bevirt (St. Louis) was the next Saints finisher with his time of 20:32.6. Classmates Casey Humphrey (Omaha, Neb.) and Justin Halley (Harvest, Ala.) finished at 20:35.3 and 21:37.4, respectively.

Phillip Ward and Mitch Murphy rounded out Maryville's competitors with their times of 24:06.5 and 24:27.6, respectively.

Matthews', Bevirt's, Humphrey's and Halley's times all rank in the Top Ten 6K times in program history.
