Men's Cross Country Takes 11th at Conference Meet

 
TJ Matthews set a career-best at the GLVC Conference Meet Saturday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Maryville University men's cross country team took 11th in the 11-team field at the Great Lakes Valley Conference meet Saturday.

Southern Indiana won its fifth straight team title and Jaime Villa Zapatero of Drury, won his second consecutive individual championship with his 8K time of 25:00.93.

Sophomore TJ Matthews (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) recorded a career-best time of 27:37.42 and finished in 62nd place to lead the Saints.

Freshman Nolan Bevirt (St. Louis) followed closely behind with his time of 27:41.72.

Classmates Casey Humphrey (Omaha, Neb.) crossed the line at 28:25.07and Phillip Beam (West Plains, Mo.) finished at 29:07.76.

Justin Halley (Harvest, Ala.) ended at 29:14.26 and senior Phil Ward (Dittmer, Mo.) rounded out Maryville's competitors with his time of 33:22.05.

The Saints conclude their season next Saturday at St. John's Invitational in Collegeville, Minn.
