Webster Narrowly Edges Maryville, 5-4
ST. LOUIS—The Maryville University women's tennis team was narrowly edged by Webster 5-4 Tuesday afternoon.
Freshman Erinne Haff (Jackson, Mo.) and sophomore Karen Schwarm (Vandalia, Ill.) earned two points in singles competition for the Saints. Haff was victorious at No. 3 singles (6-3 and 6-0) and Schwarm won 6-0 and 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
Freshman Victoria Roberson (Ballwin, Mo.) fell 6-4 and 6-1 at No. 2 singles and senior Beth Nunn (St. Charles, Mo.) lost 6-3 and 6-3 at the No. 4 spot. Sophomore Anne Kilian (Crystal City, Mo.) lost 6-3 and 6-4 at No. 5 singles. Freshman Chelsea Travis (Ballwin, Mo.) retired her No. 1 singles match due to injury.
In doubles competition, Travis and Haff and Nunn and Schwarm won at the No. 1 and 3 spots, respectively. Travis and Haff won 8-5 and Nunn and Schwarm won 8-3.
Roberson and Kilian were defeated at No. 2 doubles, 8-5.
Maryville returns to the court next Tuesday when its hosts Harding at 4 p.m.
