Women's Tennis Falls 8-1 to Missouri-St. Louis, Haff Records Lone Point

ST. LOUIS—The Maryville University women's tennis team fell 8-1 to Missouri-St. Louis in its season opener Wednesday.
Freshman Erinne Haff (Jackson, Mo.) recorded the lone win for the Saints at No. 3 singles. She won the first set 7-5, dropped the second meeting 2-6, but won the tiebreaker, 10-2.

Three Saints made their collegiate debuts in the match. Freshmen and Ballwin, Mo. natives, Chelsea Travis and Victoria Roberson lost at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Travis lost 6-1 and 6-3 and Roberson fell 7-6, 6-0 and 7-3.

Senior Beth Nunn (St. Charles, Mo.) and sophomore Anne Kilian (Crystal City, Mo.) each fell 6-0 and 6-0 at No. 4 and 5 singles.

Sophomore Karen Schwarm (Vandalia, Ill.) lost 6-0 and 6-1 at No. 6 singles. Junior Anne Hindelang (Grafton, Ill.) fell 8-3 in her exhibition match.

In doubles competition, Travis and Haff fell 8-3 at the No. 1 spot. Roberson and Kilian lost 8-1 and Schwarm and Nunn fell 8-0 at the No. 2 and 3 spots.

The Saints return to the court Tuesday, Sept. 15 across town against Lindenwood. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
