Pre-College Art & Design Summer Program

The Maryville University Pre-College Art & Design Summer Program provides high school students with a unique opportunity to build their portfolios while studying with college-level faculty in a highly creative and enriching art school setting. Students who have completed the 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grades are invited to attend. While prior art classes or experiences are helpful, they are not necessary for participation.

The Program offers valuable art and design foundation coursework to students interested in digital imaging, drawing, graphic design, illustration, craft, metals, interior design, painting, and photography, as well as other areas. All first-year students work on the same projects and cover the same information, while students who completed the Program in a prior year are assigned advanced projects.

Students will acquire essential art and design foundation concepts and skills; use exciting technology and develop digital media skills; gain exposure to the disciplines of Interior and Graphic Design; develop more skill with traditional tools and materials for drawing; acquire skills in metalsmithing and jewelry design; gain confidence in your work; produce projects suitable for college admissions portfolios; gain experience working in three-dimensional space; learn about careers in art and design; form new friendships and have fun.
