The Legal Studies Program of Maryville University has an Advisory Committee consisting
of members of the constituencies served by the program and of the general public. 
The purposes of the Advisory Committee are:
 
To assist the program in developing effective student recruiting literature and methods.
 
To evaluate and make recommendations for changes to the curriculum including
hybrid (blended) and on-line courses.
 
To facilitate Maryville University's Legal Association's (MULA) outreach to the legal community
and the public through establishing relationships with the organized bar, judiciary, paralegal
associations and other groups.
 
To recommend prospective faculty members to the program and to assist in improving
and developing the means of evaluating and educating adjunct faculty members.
 
To help in the placement of students in appropriate internship positions and to continually
evaluate the effectiveness of the internship program.
 
To develop contacts with employers that will facilitate the placement of graduates.
 
To assist with assessment efforts to ensure the program meets student
and legal community needs.

Composition of the Advisory Committee
The Advisory Committee shall consist of a minimum of ten members. Among these members shall be: lawyers from the public and private sector; legal assistants from the private sector, including large and small law firms, corporations, and at least two paralegals from the public sector; at least one law office administrator or legal assistant manager; at least one representative of the general public who is not involved in the delivery of legal services and is not otherwise affiliated with the university; at least one adjunct faculty member; the program director; a representative from the university admission office; a representative from the university career education office; one recent alumni of the program; one student representative. Members with other backgrounds may also serve.

Appointment of Members
Members are appointed by the Program Director. Advisory Committee members and faculty members are invited and encouraged to recommend persons for appointment to the committee.

Terms of Office
Except for the student member, members are appointed on a rotating basis for two-year terms. Members may be reappointed. Students serve a one-year term and may be reappointed for a second term if they continue to be students during that term of office.

Meetings
Meetings are held four times per year in March, May, July and November. The Program Director will contact the members to schedule meetings at a date and time convenient for the members.

Chair of the Committee
The Program Director shall serve as Chair of the Advisory Committee and shall set the agenda for the meetings in consultation with members of the committee.

Subcommittees
The Advisory Committee shall have the following subcommittees:

  Admissions and Recruiting
  Curriculum
  Internships and Placement
  Assessment

Each member is expected to serve on at least one subcommittee. 
Subcommittees shall meet as needed.  Ad hoc subcommittees may also be created as needed.
