The study of philosophy at Maryville University focuses upon the
history of discipline. Before students can participate meaningfully in the traditional discussions and debate the famous questions, they must have a sound grasp of the long and interconnected history of those issues and questions. Therefore, students are encouraged to take several
courses from the history of philosophy sequence (Ancient, Medieval,
Modern, and Contemporary). In addition, several courses may be taken
from among an array of other courses (Logic, Ethics, Aesthetics, Plato,
Aristotle, etc.), depending upon a student's interests.
