The liberal arts foundation of a Bachelor's in Science in Rehabilitation Services degree at Maryville University develops within the student an appreciation of the broad influences and concerns that impact the individual.
With this understanding of the total dimensions of the individual, Maryville University Rehabilitation Services graduates are prepared to be effective professionals.

 


A Bachelor's in Science in Rehabilitation Services will provide a blend of coursework and field experiences designed to provide a foundation in the purpose, process and skills of rehabilitation service delivery.

Rehabilitation Services is part of a growing program in the School of Health Professions. Upon completion of a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Services, a student can continue their clinical
and educational advancement at Maryville University by applying to the Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling program.


Program Objectives
 
Program graduates will demonstrate an understanding of the individual and society and how societal perspectives impact perspectives on disability.
 
Program graduates will demonstrate an understanding of the principles, philosophies, history, policies, laws, practices and ethics related to the field of rehabilitation.
 
Program gradates will demonstrate the ability to use effective communication and helping skills.
 
Program graduates will demonstrate and understanding of an sensitivity to a range of disabilities including physical, psychiatric, developmental, with particular attention to how these impact independent living skills.
 
Program graduates will demonstrate the ability to assist people with disabilities access vocational opportunities in the community by gaining knowledge and skills in job development, job placement and supported employment.
 
Program graduates will demonstrate the ability to provide effective case management services to the community.
 
Program graduates will demonstrate their commitment to continued professional growth and development.

Early Access

Baccalaureate students who meet the requisite grade point average and coursework may be eligible for the bridge/early access program to the MA in Rehabilitation Counseling at Maryville. Please see a description of the Psychology major with a concentration in Rehabilitation within the School of Liberal Arts and Professional Programs (www.maryville.edu/academics/lp/Programs). This program also offers early access to the graduate program in Rehabilitation Counseling.


 



As a graduate, students have the knowledge and experience necessary to work in a front line position of a community rehabilitation agency. The program curriculum focuses on a blend of course work and field experiences designed to provide a foundation in the purpose, process and skills of rehabilitation service delivery. Career opportunities for Rehabilitation Services graduates include: non-profit organizations, state and federal government, rehabilitation managers, vocational specialists, case managers, program managers, independent living specialists, protection and advocacy specialists, residential managers and private for profit companies.

Optional Specialty Tracks that can be included in the Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Services are Independent Living and Psychiatric Rehabilitation. Curriculum is based on a comprehensive holistic approach, and is guided by the Council of Rehabilitation Education Undergraduate Disability and Rehabilitation guidelines.
